Gops

Gops is an interesting game for two; it's a pure skill game, i.e. the outcome depends on the skill of the players alone, rather than chance.

It's easiest to play Gops with cards. Separate out Ace (counts as 1) to 10 for, say, Spades, Clubs and Diamonds. Each player gets one of the black suits.

Ten rounds are played. You can play for the diamonds in some pre-arranged order or (more fun!), shuffle and reveal them one at a time. Each round, players place a card face down from their reserve of Spades/Clubs. They reveal simultaneously, the higher card winning the diamond. For a draw, the diamond is discarded.

After ten rounds, players add up the "pips" of the diamonds they have won. The winner is the player with the most points.

You could play Gops on paper by writing down 1 to 10 on a piece of paper for each player. Each round, each player could circle their chosen number. After revealing, the circle could be scribbled out. With this method, it would make sense to pre-arrange the value of each round - e.g. play for 10,9,8... points.
